But nothing as definitional. No former leader would have attempted β genuinely, no previous leader would have conceived β independently wrecking large sections of the executive mansion to build a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the enthusiastic participation of some of the richest Americans, nearly all of which have business with public institutions.

As bewildering as it is to observe the leader seek toι’ θ¦ the established notion regarding democracy and replace it with its polar opposite, there remains a substantial portion among Americans who should not find it totally unfamiliar. That is those of us β in older age cohorts a near majority β who were raised within mainstream Protestant traditions.
We have watched over the years while conservative evangelical congregations turned the Jesus we learned about into exactly the opposite of our perception of his character. At its most basic, they transformed an image of love into a symbol of animosity who approves precisely the cruelties that he denounced in biblical teachings; this change developed more slowly, through multiple decades as opposed to months, but it is nonetheless disturbing via comparable methods, a confusing personal impact for numerous individuals.
A Harmful Christianity Gains Ground

The obvious and direct reality that the Jesus of the gospels advocates for a type of radical love focused on the needy is what has always made the Christian faith somewhat of a provocative belief system: engaging for the masses, but owing to its inherent radicalness requiring to be controlled. In the 1950s it was contained via weakening β The Protestant faith was so dominant that it basically baptized the status quo.
A Battle for the Best of Us
So I have been inspired to observe the determined opposition against Trump emerge in this past year. It has served as substantial consolation to participate in developing the campaign that has taken to the streets via continuous gatherings, and likely has encouraged electorate to participate in numbers during minor elections. We will need to maintain it, and through comparable resolve, with American flags during all protests and requests to the highest qualities within national heritage.
